GENERAL INFORMATION ON THE PRINCIPALITY OF MONACO:
The Principality of Monaco, often called simply Monaco, is a small and ancient kingdom with a rich and intense history. Considered throughout Europe as a very charming and romantic place, although with a very small surface: it is in fact the penultimate state in the world by size (followed only by the Vatican City).
Its territory borders exclusively with France, and overlooks the sea.
Despite its small territorial dimension, the Principality hosts more than 30,000 people of different nationalities, of which only a little over 7,000 are of Monegasque nationality.
It follows that it is the Sovereign State with the highest population density.
The Principality of Monaco is a Constitutional Monarchy. From an administrative point of view, the Principality is made up of a single Municipality that covers the entire State Territory. Monte Carlo is often called the capital of the Principality of Monaco, but the official capital is Monaco (today Monaco-Ville).
The official language is French, but the Monegasque is taught in the schools of the country.
The Monegasque is a Ligurian language. In the alleys of the old city, where the Prince's Palace is located, the names of the streets are reported both in French and in Monaco.
The use of Italian is common and widespread.
The country's economy is based on the absence of direct taxes, and this makes it a tax haven, also due to the banking secrecy that distinguishes it. By agreements with France, French citizens cannot take advantage of this exemption if they arrived in the Principality after 1958.
The currency that is legal tender is the Euro. Although the Principality is not part of the European Union (and it will never be part of it until there are no direct taxes to the citizens), it has always been linked to the currency in progress in France.
